Today, I went with
yuncyn,
futomimii,
carneaglariel and
enigmatic_wind to watch 'Up' in Sunway Pyramid today. I've been hearing rave reviews about it and even reasons to bring tissue paper to the cinema during the movie. That, snowballed with the fact that it's Pixar pretty much meant I would eventually check it out.
And boy, it doesn't disappoint! I didn't cry the 'one litre of tears'
piratelicker did, but I did end up sniffling at several points in the movie (yes, including the short clip before the movie began and the ending.) And I have to agree with Reins on the OST - gorgeous, gorgeous music that complemented the animation and story really well. And all those vibrant colors and smooth, amazing animation and guh.
The plot is simple enough to follow, but unfolds so beautifully without actually being shoved directly into your face. (Also, it is apparently so subtly conveyed that a kid behind me kept asking her parents what the heck was going on on the screen. +.+ Mmmmm, I'm thinking this may be a movie tailored more towards the older crowd then.)
Loving the character development as well - Carl's (obviously) the one given the most attention and focus, but I like how his development is clearly tied in with the other characters whom, while less developed (even static at times), are pretty likable. And Dug. ♥
Not going to drop any spoilers here, but do check it out if you can. It is definitely worth the watch and-
SQUIRREL.
- I mean, and will be worth the time and money spent. Seriously.
Not really related, but I really want to watch 'The Princess and the Frog' once it hits theaters. And wow, I really miss the good ol' Disney movies, like 'Aladdin' and co.
Anyway, the bunch of us took some purikura pictures afterwards and divided the photos amongst ourselves. Here are the ones I got. (Sorry about the picture quality; my scanner is old. T^T)

We started out pretty 'seriuz'. Really, we did.
( +5: Five times as sparkly, five times five as crazy-mad as you can get when you shove five girls into a photo booth )
Will add another picture-cut once I get the other pictures, because seriously you guys, there are more epic pictures than these. For serious.
In other news, I passed 'Captain Jack' on DDR today! \(^o^)/ With a quarter bar left to boot. Turns out it was easier than 'Cartoon Heroes', mostly because the latter has more double steps. Hoping to replicate that the next time I take a whack at that machine.

Since I haven't updated in the past few days, here's a update-dump of a sorts!
( Slightly less painful than an annual report; let's start from Thursday. )
*dusts off hands* I think that about covers it for now. Really got to pick up my LJing habit properly again.

So much for logically deciding I shouldn't get them earlier; technically, I've just bought a whole set. *facepalms* I blame it on the vanilla scent that wafted past my nose when I checked to ensure the third cupcake gloss (for my cousin) was in good condition.

(Cupcake lip glosses from Bloop, left to right: melon, strawberry, vanilla)
And I found the other two much, much closer to home - in Sunway Pyramid to be exact! Even better, we (I dragged
yuncyn out with me again ^^;) were allowed to pick and choose the ones we wanted, unlike the prepackaged ones in Midvalley. The way I figured it, they could be a present to myself for last semester's grades, but justified or not, they are really too cute to resist, darnit.
When I came home, my cousin had a surprise of her own for me - this cute doll-pendant necklace that, incidentally, she also got from Pyramid today:

Thanks so much, Pei Yi! (^3^) I'll be sure to keep (and wear) it safely.
Now, for some less frivolous stuff. Noticed this on
dustyhawk's LJ and hey, who am I not to forward a good cause:

The above DiGi campaign is aiming to raise RM150,000 in 30 days for various charities and we can help! That banner there will lead you to the charity I chose - MAKNA - but you can choose a different charity to support from the Save Now!' page. Just click on the charity you want to support from one of the three categories (nature, health, social), and DiGi will donate RM5 to that charity.
You don't have to be a DiGi user to participate in this campaign, so no 'but I'm a Celcom/Maxis/insert your mobile provider here' excuses, guys. I'm not sure if it's limited to Malaysians only but there's no harm in giving it a try. ;D You will have to verify your email after clicking since each individual/group is only allowed one vote, but it is a pretty sweet deal nonetheless.
So if you can spare some time and a click for one of those charities, please do! Those charities will really appreciate it and so will the people those charities help. :) Also, do spread the word - let's give DiGi a leg up in achieving that RM150,000!

The new semester began yesterday - no more lazy days and late mornings, awwww. Our new schedule's a little strange with Saturday classes and off-days on Tuesdays and Fridays. Also handed in my FYP proposal (after 3 days of brainstorming over what to focus it on); here's to hoping it won't be rejected!
Since we only had one lecture yesterday, what with it being the first day of the term and all, I followed a couple of uni friends to go catch 'Monsters vs. Aliens' at Midvalley. The movie wasn't too bad, but I think my expectations of the movie was set a little too high - it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. A result of too much hype perhaps? Still, the animation was good and Bob was an absolute scream. I wouldn't watch it a second time though.
Anyway, remember me mentioning these cupcake lip glosses in a previous post? Well, if you ask
yuncyn (and probably a number of other people), you'd learn that I've (sadly enough) been telling her how much I want these over the past few days. While I was at Midvalley, I followed friends into a beauty store, and lo and behold, there were several tester-samples in all their cupcake glory placed on one of the racks for display! *O*
Needless to say, I spazzed out. Really spazzed out. ♥ Granted, they were not the UK ones I saw - copies made by Bloop, actually - but still! After thinking they weren't available locally, it was a lovely, lovely surprise.
Sadly, logic kicked in and told me that RM36 (RM24 when Denise offered to take one) was more than I could spare for the set (three in one box) and I ended up going home without buying them after providing myself with a number of very plausible reasons as to why I was doing the right thing.
Upon reaching home, logic took a large beating from the part of my brain which has a weakness for cute stuff. With assistance from Denise, logic eventually caved in and today found us back at Midvalley to buy the set. We did try looking around for alternatives first at Jusco, Metrojaya and random pharmacies to see if we couldn't find sets with more choices (each set of three have random cupcake designs in them; the place we found it at only had 3 sets left with some of the cupcake designs already unavailable). No such luck - turns out Bloop is a pretty under-the-radar brand; we were probably lucky to have found the lip glosses we did at all!
So we finally bought a set and split it between us - I took the strawberry one, Denise the chocolate and the third one will probably go to my cousin for her birthday.
tl;dr? I AM A VERY HAPPY PERSON BECAUSE OF THIS:

Back from Kemaman, where we (
yuncyn and I) bunked with a friend of ours, Sal, border-hopped between Pahang and Terengganu and enjoyed the heck out of two days. 8D Thanks for having us over, Sal - we had a awesomely awesome time! *hugs*
Anyway, long post is LONG and heavy picture post is HEAVY. Seriously, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
( So it all starts from the plane, y'see... )
All the other photos are over here. This post alone took me, what, an hour to compile?
All in all, it was an amazingly productive holiday (or just 'amazing' would probably do the trick) - thanks Sal for allowing us to bum out at your house! And tell your family that we're really, really grateful for them tolerating us dragging you out here and there. >DDD Only downside of the trip were the perverts who turned up at the Legend on the first day, but the way I figure it, it isn't all that surprising. And weighed against the experiences we had, it's really almost nothing but a niggle in a memorable trip.
So...Redang next time, yeah? (^o^)9

Today's Sociolinguistics paper was so awesome that the very first question stumped me - I didn't even know it was covered in the syllabus! Apparently it was part of the last lecture, but I guess I must have been too enraptured with the 'My Fair Lady' screening (also part of the same lecture on women and men's language patterns). Bleh. The questions that followed it was equally mind-boggling, but the way I figured it, it could be a lot worse - you would be reading an epic rant if said first question (5 marks) had been the 25-mark essay question instead.
Mini-rant:
Since our class is fairly small compared to the other majors, we EL students shared the same examination hall with a handful of Finance students and an auditorium-ful of Broadcasting students. Now, the BC students' paper ends a good half-hour before ours - when their exam time was up, the invigilators requested that the keep quiet since the rest of us were still (frantically) wracking our brains for points on our lass essay question and whatnot.
Of course, at least half of them didn't bother to listen to the constant reminders and pointed shushing sounds. Some even had the gall to shoot us dirty looks. =_= Look, I know it's liberation and all for you guys but geez, can't you keep the celebration for, I don't know, outside? The noise semi-successfully distracted me from the essay I was already struggling with even without the noise - at one point, I kind of wanted to get up, slam my palms on my desk and yell at them to STFU (and not in the acronym form either).
(Ironically, the essay I was working on was the linguistic features of women's language and how they relate to politeness. One of these features include the avoidance of swear words, lol.)
[/rant]
Next paper on Saturday - Mass Media, oh joy.
Popped by the MPH Warehouse sale today - 'Pride and Prejudice' seem intent on me never owning it. I did, however, score Dan Brown's 'Deception Point' (and a movie-merchandise necklace with it, yay!) and a number of nifty reading material to add to my stack of books-to-be-read-sometime-this-century.
Also, my (mini) interview regarding my 'Urban Odysseys' story is in this month's MPH Quill! :p It's a tiny paragraph really - briefly covers my impression of KL and what I wanted to convey through my piece. I still debate between laughing and banging my head against a wall at the very first sentence I said (and they quoted).
PS: Thanks for the super-positive feedback on the last post, guys! ♥ *hugs you all*

My biggest regret? Forgetting to get their contact details, OTL OTL FAIL. T^T
But anyway! Thanks to today and Graff's prodding, I finally went and installed Skype! My ID there is 'tangibilia'; do add me (if you'd like)! Do give me a heads-up if you can though, in case I don't recognize your ID or something. :p
Also, HOTEL quiz today. Ugh, brain. Also learnt that the term '19th Century' does NOT, in fact, refer to years starting from 1900, but years from 1800 onwards. *headwalls*

Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou also seems to be coming to an end. (According to the torrents, Eps 13 is the last episode?) Awww, I'll miss it. ;___;
One Piece is currently EPIC.
Also, mini-updates, mostly for myself:
i) Worship-led with Adam last week (28th March 09)
ii) Possible collab with the Uncle Davids for Easter (gyaaah, time to go harmony-picking again!)
iii) Go through notes for HOTEL tutorial again

'Urban Odysseys' was launched today; my second essay published (in a compilation)! ^^ Had to miss my Language Learning Theories tutorial to attend it, but hey, it's not like one gets to attend these kind of events everyday, right?
All in all, the launch was pretty cool; Mano Maniam was the special guest and boy, is he insightful! My mom almost immediately pinpointed him as one of the actors from 'Kopitiam'. >D
I'll admit I was pretty nervous when I collected my certificate; figures nerves would get me in the end. ^^;;
( Here's a group photo + a giant book! )
The little blurb at the back credits me with two other published works, one of which had completely slipped my mind actually, oops. ^^;; There's another MPH anthology ('It's about Time', based on YWS 2007) coming out soonish, and I was lucky enough to be included in it. ^^
...Speaking of which, I need to work on editing one of my essays AND write another monster one due in March. (T^T) Must work hard!
'Urban Odysseys' is in MPH stores and and is priced at RM35.90. ;D

Haven't been updating my LJ for awhile; uni's been busy and I'm just a procrastinator that way. ^^; A huge photo dump is huge soon, once I've finished sorting out (or transferring in) those pictures.
Also still working on those drabbles; they will eventually go up. Hopefully.
Uni promises very sleepy mornings, but awesome lecturers.
And now, tl;dr squeeage:
Was invited by Denise's mother to go watch the premiere of 'Red Cliff II' yesterday (thanks so much, aunty! T^T9) and lemme just say this: it is super, SUPER AWESOME and now, I need the DVD, if just for the scarecrow (with Lu Su) and the arrow ploy and generally sneaky strategies and epic war scenes and yes, I'll stop now. Seriously, wow. I love the music and how it just fits with the action/event taking place onscreen. Some of the characters (the females in particular) definitely deviated from their characterization in the original history and/or the 'Rot3K' novel but it was done well, IMO.
The scenery and the war scenes were A-plus, though I could be a bit biased here - 'The Battle of Chibi' is one of my favorite (and most frustrating map) in DW5, so watching the actual version actually unfold was pretty amazing for me. Come to think of it, I was pretty much fangirling throughout the movie. I didn't notice Xiahou Dun until the end though, darn.
I have no idea how they're ever going to compress both movies (Red Cliff I and II; 4-and-a-half hours combined) into a single, two-and-a-half-hour movie for the release outside Asia. My guess is that they'll likely cut out chunks war scenes and minor plot points like, God forbid, the arrow ploy (which would be a huge, huge shame, in my opinion). Either way, I'm glad I got to watch both movies in their full, uncut glory.
[/tl;dr]
I want to see Inkheart. But first, I want to actually start reading the book.
I need to kick my writing ass back into gear out of sheer necessity. Those Canaan days, where have they gone?
Also need to get Photoshop 7 back; can't seem to do anything with PS Elements.

I'm officially 21 today! ^^ Today's quickly drawing to an end, so I thought I should make a commemorative post before it strikes midnight and make me 21-and-one-day old. :D
According to Malaysian laws, I'm now legally able to vote, which effectively labels me an 'adult' now. But to be honest, I feel no more mature than I did yesterday.
Not a bad thing though - while maturity is good, I'd like to keep a little childishness in me to appreciate the wonder of the everyday. ^^
Thanks for the presents, guys! The pea(?) plushie is so squishy, ZOMG, thanks! ♥ And the pig plushie is cute, Victor - thanks!♥ And Denise, please thank your parents for me; they are so super-generous, it takes my breath away. And of course, your own present is super major-awesome; I'll be sure to use it _lots_. ♥♥♥ ^O^

To all the well-wishers, thank you so, so much - it's nice to be remembered and wished well, especially on special days like this one. Plus, I need all the luck I can get in the coming term (and soon-coming-out exam results)! ^O^ I really, really appreciate it.
Well, here's to my 21st year of living; I'll try to face it with everything I have!
(Time's running out, but thank you, thank you so much for putting up with me and making me into who I am, all of you. ♥ *HUGS YOU ALL*)
According to Malaysian laws, I'm now legally able to vote, which effectively labels me an 'adult' now.

*very, very happy*
Went to Comic Fiesta 2008 and wow, it's all over already!
But either way, CF WAS TOTALLY AWESOME, GUYS. 8D
Had a great time over the past two days - the cosplayers were awesome, the hall was much less cramped IMHO despite the flow of people and friends make everything fun! :p
And is it just me, or were there more doujin booths this year? Saw a number of interesting doujins and misc. cute items; unfortunately, my budget limited my spending this year again, woe. T___T Ended up getting mostly doujins instead of prints and/or bookmarks. I can't say I regretted any of my purchases though, after flipping through them this morning. >D And yay, finally caught up with the current Teamworks edition after missing last year's one, LOL.
And the cosplayers this year were so fun to look at! I'm no authority on cosplay at all, but I think there were a lot of really well-done ones this year. This, by the way, includes the super-epic Odin's Sphere teamwhom I may or may not have stalked shamelessly; worth all the effort and hard work, guys! (T^T)b I also loved the Jack Sparrow on Day Two - he was so obliging, and cool! >D
Anyway, here are the Day 1 photos I took with my camera - I'm no professional photographer, so if the photo looks good, it's because you guys look amazing, period. ^^ All the photos I took on Day 2 are in
yuncyn's camera, so you'll have to wait for her to upload her bunch of photos. I haven't reinstalled Photoshop yet, so all these pictures are unedited. Do poke me if you want them in their original resolution!
Trust me, this is nowhere close to even a quarter of the cosplayers on Day 1, much less Day 2 - I think
dmjewelle's the best source to see all the different cosplayers; she took the effort to snap almost every cosplayer's picture! (Speaking of which, I need to go hunt down pictures of me on the forums, which are probably as rare as Articuno in Pokemon or something. >3)
Also met a lot of old friends this year, like Steph (whom I haven't seen in a whole year, I think!) and Jason. XDDD Also managed to meet some of the Singaporean cosplayers, both the old friends (like Lacry, Lenne and Skye) and new acquaintances like Lynn, Lenneth and Decadence - hope I'll be able to meet you guys next time! (^o^)
I owe so many thanks to so many people this year, no seriously. My mom, for one, for making my Jade costume in 4 days, despite the rush and the brainbreak and super-late nights/early mornings. The CF committee, for hosting the event and ensuring everything went well. And to the SJ bunch of people, for letting me bother you guys perpetually. *hugs* Sorry for my being a moronic emo-kid after the event on Day 2 - I tend to get really quick mood-swings when I get tired or sleepy. ^^;; It's a bad habit I need to fix. m(_ _)m Thank you for putting up with me anywaaaaaay!
Tl;dr - IT WAS AWESOME GUYS, THANK YOU. <3

Totally random but: I FINALLY MANAGED TO BEAT THE ENTIRE ARCADE GAME OF 'HOUSE OF THE DEAD 4' TODAY (WITH
yuncyn)~~~ (T^T)b
We made it to the 3rd stage fairly unscathed and all the way to the final stage using relatively few tokens. (The last 3 bosses, on the other hand...) And yeah, it is pretty darn cool to be able to finish up the whole game in the arcade and finally watch the ending.
Will be able to strike another goal off my 'Must Do Before I Die/Get Too Old to Do So' list, score!
*rolls around happily in (unnecessary) sense of accomplishment*
Also, almost everyone on my F-list possibly knows about this already but I feel the need to rant about it: WTF Konomi, whaddya mean the entire series of POT WAS ONLY A PROLOGUE??? And a mighty long one at that! O___O
Still, yay for more POT? 8D
In the meantime, here: have a POT yakiniku game!
Happy Halloween, everyone!

Guys, remember that fuss I kicked up about my B+ in Journalism II and how I eventually sent it for remarking?
Well, the uni's faculty office called me today out of the blue and told me that my subject remark results were out, prompting me to rush out of Malaysian Lit class, dash all the way down to said office and wait for ten agonizing minutes at the counter for someone to appear-
Only to be told that I couldn't get my review slip until I brought back my old results slip, which I had (obviously) left at home.
In the end, I had to ask my mom to bring it for me when she came to pick us up; rushed the slip back to the office, where I was finally, finally handed the envelope after waiting on tenterhooks for them to dig it out of some folder. (Also chatted a bit with my previous teacher and current Head of Department, who, judging from the look she gave me, probably thinks I'm a bit whacked for remarking a perfectly decent grade.)
And guess what?
MY GRADE WAS BUMPED UP TO AN A-, OH SPARKLY JOY~~~~8DDDDD
*does happy jig all around the room*
In funnier news, MPH sent me the latest edition of their annual magazine 'Quill', which features interviews with several writers who contributed to 'Urban Odysseys' and possibly all the authors in tiny boxes on the cover.
So there are all these nice pictures of various authors smiling and looking nice and like Serious Authors(tm) and LOL WHAT THE HECK, THERE IS MY FRIGGIN' HAZUKI PHOTO SITTING SQUAT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TOP ROW.

Quickpost this image to Myspace, Digg, Facebook, and others!
The first thing my mom says upon seeing it?
'...But it doesn't look like you. =/'
Until now, I haven't quite figured out if I should be horrified, amused or both at the fact that I sent in a cosplay photo for an author picture or the fact that they actually used it over the alternative photo I included. Granted, said alternative was a cam-whore shot; you know, that one on my Facebook profile.
...This must say something about keeping clear, good self-shots, non-cam-whore photos on hand (or on hard-drive) next time I need them.
On a brighter note; hey, look
carneaglariel, that's the photo you took! 8D
Reading the few interviews inside, the authors' views and ideas behind their stories sound pretty profound - makes me wonder why they ever selected mine, really. ^^;;

Unexpectedly popped over to the MPH warehouse sale with a couple of uni friends after lunch today - not a hard feat considering how close our campus is to the location the sale is being held at. (Ah, the benefits of studying in PJ!)
The original plan was for us to make our way there tomorrow, but oh well, one trip is rarely ever enough when it comes to events like these! >3 Plus, there are some books I have my eye on that I want to check out tomorrow as well. =p (Like Ptolemy's Gate which I still cannot bring myself to read, ORZ.)
( And so, here is today's bounty~ ♥ +1 )
In other news, (as
yuncyn had posted waaay earlier) there was a Cultural Exchange Program between UTAR and the Toyota Higashi High School; yours truly was working as one of the 71 facilitators on duty that day. ^^
We facilitators were divided into teams of two and assigned 7 or 6 Japanese students each. My partner and I were in charge of Group 6.
( Photos ahoy and some event prattle +5 )
Also in the belated-news department, I discovered that my laptop has a fingerprint sensor, which is really pretty darn cool! I can now log into my computer and websites with a slide of my finger if I forget my password. 8D
I end this LJ entry with ( a photo of Chiko being cute (then again, when is she never? ♥) )

Just got back from the overnight Cornerstone Baptist Church (CBC) Lock-In event; it was pretty fun - will probably go for the one at the end of the year too if I can. I just hope it doesn't clash with CF.
Next time though, I will bring a blanket and a pillow. *nods decisively* And by hook or by crook, I will figure out how to brown a sausage without turning at least one side into carbon.
Also, KJ's treasure-hung-clues hiding places are tough. >____> I spent goodness-knows-how-many minutes looking over the entire photocopier and STILL did not find the clue said to be there.
Going to go catch a few winks - Saturday was another whole day out, with uni, ECO tutoring and the Lock-In rolled into one - snowballing into an early next day meant an even higher sleep debt and believe me, I've accumulated quite a large one as it is.
Will catch up with my F-list skimming in a few hours or so. In the meantime, I hope everyone's doing okay. *hugs*
Happy Hari Merdeka, Malaysia! I felt a bit gypped regarding the fireworks though; I spent 30 futile minutes waiting on the church rooftop and forsaking the BBQ pit hoping for a few dazzlers and all I got was some distant booming noises.
Still, there is always next year. ^^;

Last lecture week of the semester - six days of study break and Finals exams will be upon us, egads. >___>;;
Coursework marks have been coming back - so far, it's all alright (phew!), with nothing that should pull my grade down. We still haven't gotten our morphology, psycholing. and academic writing assignment marks though.
The past few days have been crammed with quick trips to Midvalley Megamall from uni. Not purely for the pleasure of lepaking (hanging out) though; been searching for presents to buy our lecturers and my mom (since it's her birthday next month), the latter being a bit of a challenge. Doesn't help that I do my shopping with someone whose birthday ALSO falls in September and I can't ninja-buy her anything for fear the surprise will be blown. So how about it,
yuncyn, ol' pal? A spatula good with ya?
Moral learnt: Do not ever, EVER carry a heavy bag + books when you have to ride the KTM train; if leg ache isn't enough, I'm probably going to have sloping shoulders before I'm 25.
My long-standing grudge with the KTM train has been renewed in the past two days alone. Give me the LRT any day.
Thanks to early classes, we managed to watch 'Wall-E' today and HOMG, IT WAS AMAZING, HOW CAN A ROBOT BE SO CUTE AND SOULFUL ♥♥♥ The plot was fairly simple and understandable; what really makes the movie so memorable is the emotional relativity conveyed through the various characters. The cockroach, for one, was (I can't believe I'm typing this) so likable and likewise goes to the supporting cast of both humans and robots. The emotional growth of both Wall-E and Eve was also particularly well-done and pretty subtle. And I have a super soft spot for Moe, that obsessive cleaning disorder robot; LOL!!!
Seriously though, F-list - if you can, go catch this movie. It's really worth it - am now wondering if I should download/buy it.
Oh, before I forget, lemme just post this here:
Comic Fiesta '08
Date: 20-21 Dec 2008
Venue: Sunway Pyramid Convention Hall
Time: 11am-7pm
Never hurts to spread the word! ^^
Am tired, both mentally and physically. I really need to readjust my sleep schedule. In the meantime, study week means I can sleep in to gear up for the early exam mornings. I also predict lots of either DW or Reflexive Arcade games during that period.
Am not looking forward to revision but then again, who ever does?
